Residents are thankful for a
cost of living in Clinton County that is surprisingly low. Spacious homes in the
area are priced at a fraction of their counterparts in Chicago, Cincinnati, or
Fort Wayne. The county's tax rate is also consistently below the Indiana State
average - itself one of the lowest in the country. Property tax rates in Indiana
are determined by local governmental units using a formula that incorporates
capital requirements of the impacted governmental units and the assessed value
of real and personal property held on March 1 of any given year. Taxes are paid
in semi-annual installments - May and November - in the following year. For
these reasons - along with Clinton County's friendly atmosphere - there is a
record number of real estate developments in the area. Old-fashioned hospitality
still exists in Clinton County, and new residents are warmly welcomed. In fact,
a Welcome Wagon greeting service is in place to provide new residents with
information about the community.
